Hi,

is there a standard way to provide different texts for
* the headline,
* the running header,
* the table of contents, and
* the pdf table of contents?

I guess koma could offer something out of the box?

Best regards,
Ronnie

\documentclass{scrbook}
\usepackage{lipsum}
\usepackage{hyperref}

\newcommand{\TOC}[2]{#2}
\begin{document}

\begingroup
\renewcommand{\TOC}[2]{#1}
\tableofcontents
\endgroup

\chapter[\protect\TOC{C1-TOC1\\C1-TOC2}{\texorpdfstring{C1-HEAD1
C1-HEAD2}{C1-PDF-TOC}}]{C1-Normal1\\C1-Normal2}
\lipsum
\section[\protect\TOC{S1-TOC1\\S1-TOC2}{\texorpdfstring{S1-HEAD1
S1-HEAD2}{S1-PDF-TOC}}]{S1-Normal1\\S1-Normal2}
\lipsum

\end{document}

try \chapter{short title]{A very, very long title that goes over several
lines and completely messes up running headers and table of content and
does not increase readability anyway}
